Ryteikkö - Thicket

Curated by artist Rauha Hartt the exhibition titled "Ryteikkö" brings together three generations of artists who in their works in the exhibition explore the notion of the theme. Ryteikkö can be seen as a physical place but also something like a mental block. How'd you navigate this? The exhibition features the following artists: Tuuli Autio, Heikki Pasanen, Amado Peña and Victoria Torboli. Goldsmith of the Year 2026
Finnish Museum of Horology and Jewellery Kruunu · Espoo
Mauri Haapamäki, founder of Aspenhill Design Oy, represents the rare and rapidly disappearing silversmithing tradition in Finland. Silversmithing, one of the related professions within the goldsmithing industry, involves the traditional handcrafted production of large silver objects using techniques such as spinning, hammering and raising. With this year’s selection, the Finnish Goldsmiths’ Association wishes to highlight the demanding and significant craftsmanship of silversmithing, a profession that is increasingly under threat within the goldsmithing industry. It is a craft that requires an exceptional level of skill and expertise – knowledge that can only be acquired through years of experience and practice. Author visit: Maria Vakkuri
Lippulaiva library · Espoo
Maria Vakkuri is an author, marketing professional, and storyteller from Salo who has been fascinated by strange tales ever since childhood. She discovered her first ghost stories on library shelves, and sleepovers were filled with scary stories told by flashlight. Later, her interest deepened into a desire to find out where such stories come from and why they are passed down from one generation to the next. While writing the book Outoja tarinoita Suomesta, Vakkuri delved into Finnish urban legends, stories circulating on discussion forums and social media, and the places to which these stories have become attached over the decades. She is particularly interested in why people tell strange stories, why some of them endure, and how these same phenomena manifest online today. Vakkuri has previously published three books and led writing courses and workshops. Tens of thousands of people follow her posts on social media. Through his author visits, he aims to offer the audience an immersive and thought-provoking experience—not answers to whether the stories are true, but an opportunity to reflect together on why strange stories, in particular, remain a part of everyday life and the collective imagination in Finland. Why do some stories endure for decades? The Outoja tarinoita Suomesta author visits bring the audience face-to-face with strange Finnish stories, urban legends, and mysterious tales. The events combine atmospheric storytelling, the author’s perspective, and a discussion of why strange and scary stories continue to fascinate us. The visits do not seek to determine whether the stories are true. Instead, they pause to consider why these stories are told, how they change over time, and why every generation seems to have its own versions of these strange tales. The event is in finnish.
