Ylistys eläimille festival – Science x Art x Animal Rights
Cultural Centre Stoa · Helsinki
Ylistys eläimille is an interdisciplinary arts and science festival centred on animal rights. Taidenäyttely: Krista Kemppainen – 2nd Chance
Kallio Library · Helsinki
Olen akryyleillä kankaalle maalaava taiteilija ja henkilökohtaisesti suuri viherkasvien ystävä. Suurimmaksi osaksi taiteeni käsittelee kasvi, eläin ja hedelmä – aiheita, joissa itseäni inspiroi luonnon jatkuva kasvu, luonnon jatkuva kyky parantaa itsensä sekä miten paljon luonto voi tuoda iloa. Tähän 2 Chance -näyttelyyn olen valinnut hedelmäaiheisen sarjan. Teokset on toteutettu jo aiemmin maalattujen harjoituspohjien päälle. Halusin antaa näille pohjille uuden mahdollisuuden ja rakentaa niiden päälle jotain täysin uutta. Aiempi maalaus saa uuden elämän, uuden merkityksen ja uuden mahdollisuuden tulla nähdyksi. *** Kallion kirjasto Viides linja 11 09 310 850 53 Facebook | Kallion kirjasto

Graphic Designer of the Year 2026 Exhibition: Viivi Prokofjev – Chop Chop
Luonnos · Helsinki
Known as an art director, illustrator and book designer, Viivi Prokofjev transforms Luonnos Gallery into a space where historical styles converge, and spends a month chopping vegetables as part of an ongoing performance. Welcome to the opening of the exhibition on Friday 2 October, 17.00-19.00, at Grafia’s Luonnos Gallery. “Chop chop” means to hurry or rush, yet the exhibition is an exercise in the opposite. Inspired by French culinary traditions, Chop Chop plays with a basic geometric form and explores the relationship between the decorative and the practical. The exhibition brings the often invisible labour of preparation into focus. In addition to the performance, the exhibition consists of spatial design and a Tropism print publication, featuring texts by Benjamin Mouly, Maya Byskov and Sara Karppinen on the relationship between form and matter, as well as kitchen practices and rituals. Lokakuun taiteilija Unna Nguyen: Ốc-tober
Etelä-Haaga Library · Helsinki
Unna Nguyen kertoo näyttelystään: Tämä etanasarja on maalattu lokakuussa 2023 osana Instagramin taidehaastetta nimeltä Inktober. Haasteen ideana on tehdä yksi taideteos per päivä, jokaiselle päivälle on oma sanansa inspiraatioksi. Sarjassa on siis noin 31 etanateemaista maalausta, yksi jokaiselle lokakuun päivälle.

Igor Lora Romero: Developing Bodies in Space (2021)
Helsinki Central Library Oodi · Helsinki
Projection of the short animation Developing Bodies in Space (2021) by Igor Lora Romero Projection walls on the 1st floor of Oodi 5th to 30th October 2026 The film explores the relationships between body and mind, creator and creation. How can an individual create physical proof that their conscience existed in this very moment? A piece of paper is pressed against the skin so that its creases become a map, but something is lost in translation. Just as tridimensionality is incomprehensible for a surface, we are only able to understand our surroundings through our senses. What lies outside of our perception? How does it feel to be something (or someone) else outside of our body? The artist is a student of the Master in Fine Arts in the University of the Arts Helsinki. Inspired by introspection and concerns from everyday life, his pieces cover a range of topics such as personal identity, the human body or the search of beauty. Most recently he has been working with figurative paintings andhandmade models. Instagram: @tanelfu Developing Bodies is part of Oodi Media Art Exhibitions series 2026-2027.

Eeva-Liisa Puhakka and Raana Lehtinen
HAA Gallery · Helsinki
Eeva-Liisa Puhakka: Wild Blue (Hall 1) and Raana Lehtinen: Eternity in the Garden (Hall 2) Puhakka’s exhibition explores Latvian Blue cattle and Scandinavian mythology. In Lehtinen’s paintings, memories blend with new observations of the surroundings. The video of the blue cows is the first part of a three-part video work series. The blue cows and the old hides meet in these works at a time when questions of nature, the status of animals, and humanity's relationship to the environment are becoming ever more relevant." In Raana Lehtinen’s exhibition Eternity in the Garden, memories of youth intertwine with fresh observations of the surrounding environment. In oil and watercolour paintings, the everyday nature of the nearby landscape becomes a stage for something wondrous. Lehtinen grew up, and continues to live, in a suburb of Eastern Helsinki, and the settings of her paintings are consequently found in fragmented woodland and urban parks. The photo series The Whole World Is a Stage (Színház az egész…) focuses on theatre and aims to lift the curtain on what happens behind the scenes, offering the general public a glimpse into the lesser-known side of the theatre world. The exhibition is curated by Vera Várszegi. “I am an actress. During performances and rehearsals, I see different situations, scenes and my colleagues from a perspective that is inaccessible to ordinary theatre-goers. When I fell in love with photography, I decided to bring these moments to light.” Zsuzsa Hullan is an actress at Budapest’s renowned Vígszínház theatre and a photographic artist. Her first solo exhibition was held in Budapest in 2019. Since then, her photographs have been featured in numerous exhibitions, including international ones, as well as in publications such as Premier magazine and National Geographic, following a recommendation from Kossuth Prize-winning photographer Éva Keleti. Art exhibition: Valeria Azovskaya - Blooming under pressure
Kallio Library · Helsinki
Photography has long been my safe ground, a familiar lens for observing, capturing, and making sense of the world. A supportive foundation is essential when you first begin to create, providing the base needed to find your path. This exhibition marks an unfiltered point of shift in my journey as a visual artist. I am stepping away from familiar territory to explore painting and handcrafted techniques, using my photographic work not as a final destination, but as a starting point. Transitioning into a new medium comes with pressure, uncertainty, and no guarantees. Yet, when the drive for change and creative development takes over, being uncomfortable becomes the new normal. Growth requires learning to inhabit that unpredictable space, first with acceptance and later, hopefully, with confidence. The artworks on this wall reflect this exact process. To force myself out of my comfort zone, I gave myself a strict brief and deadline. I am using the pressure of this exhibition to create new work, directly from my photographic starting points. Without this self-imposed urgency, it would be too easy to stay where it is safe. Both completed and unfolding, these pieces represent a live experiment, a space where photography transforms into paint, and where both the visitor and I encounter the unexpected together. About an artist: Valeria Azovskaya is a designer and visual artist based and working in Finland, Helsinki, where she has lived and created for over 14 years. Her journey with photography began at age twelve, starting with her grandfather’s film camera and continuing with her first digital camera, purchased with her earliest earnings. Her artistic practice centers on theme-driven exploration, capturing moments of transformation, quiet dialogues, and evolving landscapes, whether urban, natural, or internal. Drawing on her professional background as a learning designer, she views art as an interactive space for discovery, investigating how we adapt, transform, and make se

Taidenäyttely: Anne Heinonen - Päivä apinatarhalla
Kallio Library · Helsinki
Avoinna 2.-30.10. A Portrait of Finland on the Move
Helsinki Central railway station · Helsinki
Helsinki Central Railway Station and Suomen Kuvalehti are the same age. When the magazine began publication in 1916, construction of the railway station was still underway. Both shared the same goal: to connect Finns and provide access to new places. The newly independent Finland was curious. Finns explored cities across the country, from east to west. The North fascinated people, technology advanced, the population grew, and people moved to the cities. The covers of the 110-year-old Suomen Kuvalehti over the decades also serve as a mirror of the nation. Both those in power and ordinary Finns look out at the reader. There is joy as well as drama. Growing prosperity and increased mobility brought new experiences, yet the image of Finland still feels remarkably familiar. Finnish Civic Museum 18.9.-18.10.2026 Daily 6.00-24.00 Free entry

Vaikenemisen kielioppi
Vuosaaren tilajakamo · Helsinki
Viljami Heinonen: Threshold
Galerie Forsblom · Helsinki
Viljami Heinonen’s latest exhibition opens onto a series of interiors. Despite their apparent decorativeness, a sense of heaviness hangs in the air. The atmosphere is motionless, and the silence feels oppressive. The absence of human figures is underscored by the traces they have left behind. At times, bodies come into view, yet their faces remain obscured, erasing any sense of human presence. Animals appear only as hides or trophies. The spatiality of each work keeps collapsing even as it is being constructed, just as the figurative and the abstract coexist within each gesture. The paintings are characterized by a powerful layering of both physical and temporal dimensions. Heinonen paints memories, and the locations he creates thus double as psychological spaces. Viljami Heinonen (b. 1986) graduated from Kankaanpää Art School in 2012. He has held solo exhibitions and participated in various group exhibitions. His work is held in collections incl. HAM Helsinki Art Museum, the Saastamoinen Foundation, Pori Art Museum, the Wihuri Foundation, and the State Art Deposit Collection. He received the William Thuring Prize in 2022, the Art of Basware Award in 2013, and the Marcus Collin Foundation’s Painting Prize in 2025. Luke Jerram: Helios
Helsinki Cathedral · Helsinki
Helios is a seven-metre-scale model of the Sun created by British artist Luke Jerram, combining art, light and sound into a captivating artistic experience. Measuring seven metres in diameter, the artwork features 72dpi detailed imagery* of the Sun’s surface. At an approximate scale of 1:200 million, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 2000km of the Sun’s surface. The installation is a fusion of solar imagery, sunlight and a specially created sound composition by Duncan Speakman and Sarah Anderson. Imagery for the artwork has been compiled using 400,000 photographs of the Sun provided by Astrophotographer Dr Stuart Green (taken between May 2018 to June 2024) and NASA observations of the Sun, with guidance from solar scientist, Professor Lucie Green of University College London (UCL). Helios follows on from Jerram’s previous astronomical artworks, Museum of the Moon, Gaia, and Mars. In Helsinki, Helios forms part of the Helsinki Cathedral Parish’s Let There Be Light! themed month, which explores mental wellbeing and mental health. Alisa Javits: On Fear and Evil
Forum Box · Helsinki
Alisa Javits’ On Fear and Evil is a 25-minute short film exploring fear, evil and the relationship between the two. Through personal experiences, the film considers how fear can influence human actions and shape our understanding of good and evil. The film begins with a short reflective prologue and concludes with an epilogue. Between them, a series of anonymous interviews brings forward personal experiences of fear and evil – of the evil the interviewees have done themselves, as well as the evil they have experienced at the hands of others. Remaining anonymous, the interviewees speak from deeply personal experiences while raising questions that extend beyond the individual. Where is the boundary between fear and evil? Alongside the inner world of the human being, nature becomes another presence in the work. Its scale is different: nature exists independently of humanity, even as human beings remain dependent on it in many ways. Within this scale, the violence and evil of human history can appear small. On an individual level, however, evil can be immense. Alisa Javits is a visual artist and creative director whose works explore the experiences of human existence in this world. Alisa’s works are characterized by profound content and versatility. A recurring theme in her work is the contradiction between the inner and outer in people. Eetu Huhtala: Going Nowhere
Forum Box · Helsinki
Split in two, lopsided, and always returning to the starting point. The exhibition Going Nowhere brings together works connected by thoughts of division, the distance forming between people, and the growing fragility of shared space. The exhibition consists of works made of steel and aluminium that borrow their forms and functions from large-scale objects and devices found in public spaces. Individual works are rooted in experiences of supporting structures disappearing, unevenness, and aimlessness. Throughout the works, however, there is a recurring sense of distance and of the impossibility of closing it. Eetu Huhtala (b. 1993, Äänekoski) is a sculptor living in Helsinki and working in Kerava. Huhtala’s practice consists of moving mechanical sculptures, large-scale metal sculptures, and multisensory works. His works are often based on familiar everyday objects, devices, or structures, which, through changes in their function or form, become connected to personal experiences and broader societal problems. Mechanical objects often become flawed in a distinctly human way. Forum Box 2.-25.10.2026 Tue-Sun 12.00-17.00 Free entry

Johan Eichhorn: Creative Destruction
Natural History Museum · Helsinki
Johan Eichhorn’s Creative Destruction shifts human interventions in nature into the human living environment. Instead of forest roads cutting through woodlands, drainage drying out wetlands, and dams altering waterways, these elements appear in people’s homes and other everyday spaces. In the staged photographs, familiar environments become strange. At the same time, they make visible the ways we reshape nature – changes that have gradually become an almost unnoticed part of our daily lives. The exhibition does not aim to provide answers, but invites viewers to reflect on why we accept in nature things we would never accept in our own living environment. Miisa Mäkeläinen: Lemmenlätäkkö
Galerie Forsblom · Helsinki
Miisa Mäkeläinen is a Helsinki-based painter whose motifs seem to hint at something familiar, yet resist any fixed interpretation. Soft shapes flow across the canvas, intertwining nature’s cycles with themes of embodiment. Nature comes to life in tree canopies, mycelia, root systems, leaf veins and meandering streams that pulsate, inhale, and exhale within the layers of paint. The picture plane disintegrates, figurative elements become camouflaged in the terrain, and ultimately metamorphose into something new. For Mäkeläinen, painting is a way of slowing down and being present. Rather than rushing her brush, she allows it to linger, taking time to work out small details within larger compositions. She now leaves layers visible that she previously would have painted over, allowing subtle transitions to emerge in the works. Meanwhile, her palette has acquired new depth, driven by her fascination with how colours that initially seem mismatched can be brought together to create harmony. Miisa Mäkeläinen (b. 1992) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of the Arts Helsinki in 2025. She has held numerous solo and group exhibitions in Finland. Her works are held in the Finnish State Art Deposit Collections and other significant collections, incl. that of the Finnish Art Society. Hannu Väisänen: Derrière les portes
Galerie Forsblom · Helsinki
Hannu Väisänen’s works often deal with everyday objects and occurrences, translating their intriguing details and distinctive features into the language of painting. The artist typically takes up a single theme and works on it for an extended period. This time, he found himself exploring a subject that literally invited him to cross the threshold and step inside: doors. While in India in 1996, Väisänen painted a water colour sketch of a Rajasthani door with an ornate frame and prayer flags. This year, that sketch caught the artist’s eye and inspired him to begin a new series of paintings exploring doors and gates. Väisänen explores the interplay of colours, as well as the rectangular shape of doors and their simultaneously abstract and figurative nature. Although the subject matter is figurative, the artist avoids creating any illusion of depth, instead allowing the paintings to exist purely on the surface of the picture plane. Hannu Väisänen is a multidisciplinary artist who works across many fields, incl. visual art, writing, set design, costume design, directing and illustration. His work is held in numerous Finnish public collections, and he has completed many public commissions. He was awarded the State Prize for Art and the Finlandia Prize for Literature in 2007, as well as the State Prize for Literature in 2015. Mirjam Yeboah: Emellan
Cultural Centre Caisa · Helsinki
Emellan is an immersive textile installation in which the body manifests as space, memory and shelter. Composed of textile sculptures and a soundscape, the exhibition invites visitors to step into a den-like space where personal memories, cultural heritage and embodied experiences intertwine. The work explores Afro-Finnish and Fante–Fenno-Swedish identity from an intersectional perspective. The suspended textile sculptures reflect complex ways of navigating the surrounding world and its expectations. The participatory elements of the exhibition invite visitors to experience the work with their whole bodies. Emellan creates a space where time is nonlinear and where connections to ancestors, community and personal memories exist simultaneously. The exhibition explores the layered nature of identity through sensory impressions, care and shared experiences. It asks what kinds of spaces we can create when diversity is not an exception, but a starting point. During the exhibition, three participatory workshops will be held in the installation space. Guided by the artist, participants can leave their own marks on the work. A guided tour of the exhibition will be held in Finnish Sign Language on Saturday October 10, 2026, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Mirjam Yeboah is a Finnish-Ghanaian textile artist specialising in costume design and pedagogy. Their art often draws on the intersections of their own identities, as well as a decolonial approach. For them, textile is not only a medium, but a narrative element in itself – powerful and soft. That is why Mirjam is particularly interested in the relationship between body, mind and material.

Näyttelyn nimi ”Crazy Invalid” sai alkunsa yhden asiakkaan humoristisesta ideasta. Nimi Kurki on saanut alkunsa perustajien suvusta.

What emerges in a place because of its darkness? Isabella Chydenius
MUU Window · Helsinki
Isabella Chydenius: Depictions of nightly (club) corners The sculptures in this exhibition highlight elements of Chydenius research into safer space club culture and queer nightlife. The rigid square shapes reference heteropatriarchal norms that seek to control and contain people who challenge said norms, while simultaneously suggesting the outlines of a protected space for safety, community, and self-expression. The light inside the sculptures acts as a metaphor for the joy and empowerment created within nightclubs. As the light escapes the square’s boundaries, it symbolically challenges the limits imposed by oppressive structures. MUU Ikkuna 10.9.-1.11.2026 24/7 Free entry

Heli Heikkinen – Elämä väreissä
Myllypuro Senior Centre / Service Centre · Helsinki
Taidemaalari Heli Heikkisen Elämä väreissä -näyttely on esillä Myllypuron seniorikeskuksen Tauko-galleriassa 26.8. – 22.10.2026. Häiriköt-päämaja & Eläinoikeusakatemia: Reality as We Don't Know It
Cultural Centre Stoa · Helsinki
Animals are in front of you, behind you, on top of you and inside you. You may not see them, but they can see you. Although many times as many members of other species are reared and slaughtered each year around the world and in Finland as there are humans, our attention is focused almost exclusively on humans. This exhibition by Häiriköt-päämaja and Eläinoikeusakatemia draws attention to places we usually prefer not to look. And as we look at the others, we realise that they have been watching us the whole time. In the exhibition, works by Jari Tamminen, Laura Gustafsson, Ville Salervo and Hanna Kukko explore the theme through means such as counter-advertisements, production equipment used in the animal industry and comic book techniques.

art from Maunula Primary School
Maunula House · Helsinki
The neighbourhoods are depicted as green, rugged and inviting, full of meaningful nooks and crannies and places that evoke warm memories. The pupils have drawn inspiration from personal everyday moments: from the home yard, parks, school commutes, and shopping trips. With a special sense of warmth and a through a lens of nostalgia, many pupils have wanted to take a look at the old school building, from which they have moved to temporary premises for the duration of a renovation project. The exhibition offers a glimpse, through 44 works of art, into children’s diverse, endearing and at times even surprising ways of seeing their immediate surroundings. At the same time, it serves as a reminder of how important it is to give children’s art space to be seen. A child’s perspective is important, and every moment counts. Place: Lobby gallery

Finnish National Youth Theatre: if you ask us
Finnish National Theatre · Helsinki
The National Youth Theatre is a group of young theatre makers who challenge the understanding of who is allowed to make theatre and who it is for. The group includes performers from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Finland, Kurdistan, Somalia and Syria, who work together with experienced artists. The script is based on material produced by the young people. "if you ask us is not based on a play or ready-made script. All the material has been created in the rehearsal room through different practices of improvisation and task-based scores. Then, the material has been edited and developed together with the actors. We use processes of theatre making so that we can understand and influence how we are represented. This group began working in January 2026. Together we have been learning to listen – to each other and to the world, listening to words and listening to movement. Our stage finds its frame from questions of language, truth, tradition and modernity. Seeking understanding is a constant process of back-and-forth movement." National Theatre, Small Stage 14.10.-2.11.2026 Premiere 14.10. klo 18.30 Other performances: 16.10. / 26.10. / 2.11. at 18.30 24.10. at 13.00 Tickets 10-36€ from Lippupiste, no intermission, age recommendation 12+ Performed in Finnish, English, Somali, Bengali, Arabic, Turkish and Dari Subtitles are available in English and Finnish

Aalto Design – Shapes of Wellbeing
Architecture & Design Museum Helsinki · Helsinki
The exhibition invites visitors to explore Alvar, Aino and Elissa Aalto’s architecture and design from the perspective of wellbeing. The exhibition highlights wellbeing as the Aaltos’ major contribution to Western architectural modernism and examines how their work and philosophy approach it as a balance between people, nature, the built environment, and materials. It connects the Aaltos’ idea of holistic wellbeing with contemporary thinking and the growing desire to understand wellbeing as extending beyond the individual to concern the whole planet. The exhibition brings together a diverse dialogue of presentation methods and materials, including drawings and scale models, furniture, glass objects and material experiments, as well as artworks. The exhibition also features rarely displayed items from the museum’s collections. Among other works, the exhibition includes the multi-channel video installation Other Actors (2025) by London-based artist and researcher Ilona Sagar. The Aalto Lounge offers a calm space for rest and reflection and invites visitors to explore how being in a space affects their body and mind in the presence of authentic Aalto objects. Daniel Kruger: Fragments of the Future
Gallery GAo ShAn · Helsinki
The first solo exhibition in Helsinki by internationally acclaimed South African-born artist Daniel Kruger (b. 1951) presents his distinctive jewellery and ceramic works. Kruger’s art brings together influences from his upbringing in South Africa and Namibia with decades of working in Germany – creating a dialogue between nature and culture, history and the present, and the precious and the everyday. Kruger is known for his fearless combinations of materials and techniques. Precious metals, gemstones and pearls may appear alongside glass, paper, textiles, pigments and found objects. His sculptural jewellery is at once made to adorn the body, to be touched and handled, and to exist as an autonomous work of art. In his ceramics, history, ornament and contemporary culture often take on unexpected and playful forms. Fragments of the Future explores memory, material and the layers of time. For Kruger, the past is not a closed archive but a living reservoir from which objects, forms and memories can enter new contexts and move towards the future. The exhibition invites us to look at familiar materials and objects from a new perspective – with sensuality, curiosity and an open mind. Tiina Hallakorpi and Minna Raskinen:There's No Place Like Home
Cultural Centre Kanneltalo · Helsinki
This community art project draws parallels between the experiences of refugees and evacuees: what is it like to be forced to leave your home and build a new life in a new place? The departure comes as a surprise, the journey is difficult, you may face discrimination in your new surroundings, and homesickness gnaws at you. But then you settle in. The project involved interviews with Karelian evacuees and refugees, as well as their descendants. The interviewees also included immigrants who did not arrive here as refugees but are also unable to return home due to war or conflict. The exhibition showcases the participants’ stories in the form of works combining text and images, created by using a variety of techniques. Some of the participants also contributed to the works by sewing or embroidering. To counterbalance these harrowing stories, the exhibition features familiar and comforting household objects and textiles. The majority of Finnish people live in apartment buildings. For this reason, the exhibition space resembles the corridor of an apartment building, with access to the various themes of the exhibition via apartment doors. What sort of stories lie hidden behind those doors? The exhibition also includes the work Missä juuresi ovat (‘Where Are Your Roots’), in which the audience can take part. With the exception of a few existing themes, the music for this audio work was composed specifically for this exhibition. Kanteles, ouds, flutes and percussion instruments weave a multicultural soundscape. The sounds of home and its surroundings complete the work and fuel the listener’s own mental images. The audio work was also produced partially through music workshops. Concept, design and implementation of the exhibition: visual and community artist Tiina Hallakorpi Design, composition, recording and editing of the audio work: musician and composer Minna Raskinen The Kone Foundation has supported the project.

Sivuraide
Finnish National Theatre · Helsinki
Lopetus
Finnish National Theatre · Helsinki
Katariina Nummisen ja Milja Sarkolan tulkinta Nobel-palkitun Imre Kertészin romaanista on kiehtova ja puhutteleva näyttämöpalapeli historiasta, muistista ja menneisyyden pitkästä varjosta. Kirjailija B on tehnyt itsemurhan. Arvoituksellisen B:n jälkeenjääneet paperit on saanut haltuunsa kustannustoimittaja Keserű (Janne Reinikainen), joka haluaisi julkaista ne. Edesmenneen kirjailijan jäämistöstä näyttää kuitenkin puuttuvan olennainen palanen, romaani, jonka olemassaolosta on vain epämääräisiä vihjeitä. Keserű lähtee jäljittämään mestariteosta, joka tuntuu haihtuneen olemattomiin. Kadonneen romaanin etsinnästä kehkeytyy Keserűlle pakkomielle, vuosia kestävä salapoliisimysteeri, johon sekoittuu yhä enemmän ihmisiä: ystäviä, läheisiä, kustannusväkeä, viranomaisia. Kaikkien kohtaloiden ja tarinoiden keskiössä on samaan aikaan läsnä- ja poissaoleva kirjailija B, jonka elämä ja kuolema kietoutuvat Euroopan viime vuosisadan katastrofeihin. Viidakon villit naiset
Finnish National Theatre · Helsinki
Kristian Smedsin uusi ”alkuperäissarja” heilauttaa katsojat liaanilla viihdeteollisuuden viidakkoon! Luvassa on tosi-tv-teatteria, anarkistista komediaa ja ennennäkemätön energialataus Suurella näyttämöllä. Kuusi suomalaista naista on valittu uuden tosi-tv-tuotannon tähdiksi. Viidakko on rakennettu Keravalle tyhjään teollisuushalliin. Planet Fun Funin jäämistöä ja muuta filmialan rompetta on raavittu kasaan huutokaupoista ja konkurssipesistä. Lapista on hommattu Speden kesämökin kuuluisa palju uima-altaaksi.

Eräänä iltana Treat tuo asunnolle humalaisen Haroldin (Petri Liski), jolla on mukanaan kallisarvoinen osakesalkku. Paper Stars – Paper Dolls by Rauni Palonen
Tamminiemi · Helsinki
Paper Stars – Paper Dolls by Rauni Palonen, 1968–1982 Tamminiemi features a nostalgic glimpse into the world of celebrities and popular culture of President Kekkonen’s era. The small-scale exhibition showcases paper dolls drawn by fashion artist and editor Rauni Palonen (b. 1929). Originally published in Apu magazine between 1968 and 1982, these drawings depicted the most celebrated stars of the era: beauty queens, singers, actors, television personalities, athletes, and even royalty from neighbouring countries. Palonen would produce weekly sketches of celebrities, complete with outfits tailored to the latest fashion trends. For many, these paper stars were treasured toys. They were carefully cut out, glued to cardboard, accessorised with handmade outfits, and preserved with care. Several of these paper stars were also a familiar sight at Kekkonen’s home in Tamminiemi or at the Independence Day reception at the Presidential Palace. Paper Stars is a tribute to the long and distinguished career of fashion editor Rauni Palonen, whose paper dolls were known to the entire nation in her time. The collection donated by Palonen to the Finnish Heritage Agency’s Picture Collections contains a total of 207 paper stars. In this small-scale exhibition, approximately 80 figures are on display, featuring both digitised versions and original drawings. Tamminiemi 17.4.2026-9.1.2028

Bálvvosbáiki is an audiovisual concert in which the Sámi yoiks (luohtis) performed by Ánnámáret intertwine with Turkka Inkilä’s nuanced electronic music, Ilkka Heinonen’s gritty and partially effected jouhikko, and Marja Viitahuhta’s video art combining animation, archival footage, and material filmed in Sápmi. The luohtis reflect how the Sámi worldview manifests in the present day, while the concert also touches on themes of colonialism and environmental awareness. Are the female deities Sáráhkka, Juhksáhkka and Uksáhkka still present? Can the power of a sieidi be experienced through yoiking? What does intergenerational sorrow feel like? The concert is part of Kiasma's We Who Remain - Sámi Art in Focus exhibition's programme. Ticket includes admission to Kiasma's exhibitions on the day of the performance.

Barley Porridge and Crispbread
Hotel and Restaurant Museum · Helsinki
Barley Porridge and Crispbread – The Story of Finnish School Meals Barley Porridge and Crispbread – The Story of Finnish School Meals takes visitors on a journey more than a century back in time. Free meals were originally introduced to encourage children from low-income families to attend school and to secure their nutritional needs during the school day. In 1943, Finland expanded the free school meal into a universal right for every pupil – the first country in the world. School meals became a symbol of the Finnish welfare state and its commitment to equality, wellbeing and learning. The exhibition highlights the history of school meals and the memories connected to them across different decades. Over more than 80 years, the free meal has touched countless Finns and shaped their understanding of community, nutrition and everyday school life. From humble porridges to today’s responsible, nutritious and socially significant meal service, the journey has been long. The Peacock in the Garden
Sinebrychoff Art Museum · Helsinki
The Peacock in the Garden – Mathias Withoos and Rome Like many of his colleagues, the painter Mathias Withoos joined the Bentvueghels during his stay in Rome around 1648–1653. Rome can be seen in his art in the landscapes, which he framed with abundant plant motifs. In his signature still-life paintings, undergrowth teeming with life is combined with elements from a sublime urban landscape. In his oeuvre he repeatedly returned to Roman and Italian influences. The Bentvueghels group sprang up among Dutch and Flemish artists in Rome around 1620, and the community continued in existence for a century, until 1720. They were boisterous revellers who spent time in close-knit togetherness in their new city. But being in Rome was about more than just carousing. They took art making and artistic development seriously. The members of the Bentvueghels were especially keen on drawing and painting in the open air. The artists wanted to learn from the Italian masters, and also sought out new views in the city. The group included, among others, Caspar van Wittel (1653–1736), Jan Both (1618–1652) and Cornelis van Poelenburgh (1594–1667), whose works are in this exhibition. Anna Sinebrychoff - Ahead of Her Time
Sinebrychoff Art Museum · Helsinki
Anna Sinebrychoff (1830–1904) had a bourgeois girl’s education, married the successful businessman Paul Sinebrychoff (1799–1883) in 1850, and they had four children. On her husband’s death, she attained a position that was rare for a woman in Finland, as majority shareholder and chair of the board of a large company. In the latter half of the 19th century, she became the most important woman in the prominent Sinebrychoff Brewery clan. She resolutely led the family and kept a close eye on the work of her two sons as they managed the company. She was the undisputed matriarch and a revered grandmother. Anna Sinebrychoff died in 1904. The numerous obituaries noted her extensive charitable work. The exhibition offers a broad overview of Anna’s life and work in Helsinki from the 1850s onwards. At its core is Anna Sinebrychoff the active influencer: bearer of responsibility for the family and business, benefactor, prominent figure in associations and societies, and member of the Orthodox congregation. Amaze! Tales and Magic of Circus
Theatre Museum · Helsinki
Amaze! Tales and Magic of Circus is a comprehensive exhibition on Finnish circus and its history. Circus enchants, entertains, and captivates its audience with the antics of clowns, the bravery of circus artists, the sparkle of sequins, the scent of popcorn, magic, and masterful skills. Circus is an art form where the impossible becomes reality and the audience can feel the thrill in their bones. Acrobatics, magic, and humor speak without words, and clowns remind people of their humanity. The story of Finnish circus began in the 19th century, when international troupes started visiting Finland. Finnish circus is the world of legendary personalities, international adventures, the joy of circus enthusiasts, absurd storytelling — and thousands of hours of sweaty practice. Since the 1990s, new ideas have emerged alongside traditional circus: influences have been drawn from contemporary dance, popular culture, music, and visual arts. In the 2000s, contemporary circus groups and artists have successfully taken their performances to stages around the world, making Finland an internationally respected country in the field of contemporary circus. The characters and stories of Finnish circus history, traditional circus, and contemporary circus run side by side throughout the exhibition. Wanda & Naomi Holopainen: Landscape of Traces
Photographic Gallery Hippolyte · Helsinki
Landscape of Traces, an exhibition by artists Wanda Holopainen and Naomi Holopainen, continues their collaborative exploration of archives, memory and the ways in which knowledge is carried across generations and places. The exhibition examines how histories are remembered, preserved and passed on through objects, materials and practices. It considers how our relationship with things from the past shapes what remains, what is left out and what is forgotten. Landscape of Traces invites visitors to consider what remains in the materials around us and the stories they carry. What do we choose to reclaim, preserve, care for and pass on? What might exist beyond what we can see? Wanda Holopainen (b. 1993) is a self-taught multidisciplinary installation artist. Her current practice brings together textile installation, moving image and photography to explore material memory, ecology, transformation and cultural transmission. Naomi Holopainen (b. 1993) works conceptually across different media, exploring lines, forms and movement. Her practice focuses on how materials, bodies and spaces carry traces of experience, and how ordinary materials can be transformed through touch, process and environment. Grounded in collective creation and spatiality, her work explores the relationships between materials, bodies and their surroundings. Photographic Gallery Hippolyte 16.10.-15.11.2026 Free entry

Antti Jussila: Tender Buttons
Photographic Gallery Hippolyte · Helsinki
Antti Jussila’s Tender Buttons is a kind of home. Its order emerges through small shifts, repetition and things that have temporarily found their place. A home is held together through maintenance: surfaces are wiped, objects are moved, food is prepared and its remains cleared away. Something is constantly accumulating again. Running alongside Jussila’s work are Gertrude Stein’s Tender Buttons (1914) and Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper (1892), in which everyday objects, food, rooms and their surfaces refuse to remain merely the backdrop to events. In Jussila’s small-scale assemblages, repeated patterns and overlapping window frames are interwoven with plaster, textiles and everyday materials. Vaseline, glitter and food remains have adhered to smooth picture surfaces; elsewhere, small objects and materials are embedded in plaster, while clean textiles come into contact with those that have become soiled. Antti Jussila (b. 1979) is an artist based in Helsinki. He works across sculpture, moving image, sound and performance, both independently and collectively. His work brings visuality, materiality and language together, allowing meanings to accumulate in layers. His practice repeatedly examines systems and the interdependencies between them, alongside speculative fiction, the liminal zones of consciousness and aesthetic dead ends. As the artist himself states, “I make things I want to see exist in the world.” Arsham’s sculptures often resemble eroded artifacts or fragmented monuments, blurring the boundaries between art, architecture and design. Makasiini Dialogues The walls are filled with art and the space with conversation as Makasiini Dialogues becomes part of the opening nights. Guided by a moderator, the conversation explores the newly opened exhibitions, the artists’ practices and perspectives, and broader questions surrounding contemporary art today. Following the conversation, the dialogue continues informally with the artists in their exhibition spaces. For the next Makasiini Dialogue, Daniel Arsham will be in conversation with moderator Roland-Philippe Kretzschmar (The Art Bystander) at 18.00, on the occasion of Arsham’s exhibition opening. Makasiini Contemporary 9.10.-13.11.2026 Opening 8.10. at 17.00-20.00 Tue-Fri 11.00-18.00 Sat-Sun 12.00-16.00 Free entry

Between Earth and Sky
Galleria Dromig · Helsinki
Between Earth and Sky brings together two distinct forms of visual expression. One opens up the landscape, while the other fills it with life. Together, they invite the viewer to enter a natural world where openness and abundance complement one another. The paintings of Heidi Heinonen and Maj Sjö approach nature from different perspectives, yet share a common foundation. Both artists work intuitively, building their paintings through layers and placing a strong trust in colour – in its subtle nuances as well as its powerful contrasts. Maj Sjö’s works unfold as spaces in which colour, light and form are experienced as moods rather than recognisable landscapes. Heidi Heinonen, in turn, creates lush botanical worlds inspired by a longing for nature’s abundance and richness of colour. The paintings do not depict a particular season as observed, but rather an experience of nature shaped by memory, anticipation and imagination. Although the artists’ visual languages are distinct, their works are united by the constant presence of nature, an intuitive approach to painting and a desire to interpret the world around them. The exhibition invites us to pause and experience nature – not through predetermined answers, but through our own observations and experiences. Heidi Heinonen Heidi Heinonen works with acrylic paint. Her works often develop through a lengthy process in which colours, forms and layers gradually find their own order. Music is an important starting point for her painting, with its rhythm and atmosphere guiding the development of each work. Heinonen is particularly interested in the ability of colour to convey experiences and emotional states without relying on overly representational storytelling. Maj Sjö Maj Sjö works primarily in oils. Her practice is guided by observations and experiences inspired by nature, particularly the sea and the Finnish archipelago. Sjö’s paintings combine the sensuous materiality of oil paint with an intuitive approach, allowing ea

In Kiertokollektiivi's first panel discussion, the topic is approached from a perspective of hope and solutions. The panelists look for answers to the question of what an individual person can do to reduce textile waste. What grassroots means of influence do individuals and small local communities have? What choices and actions can create change and increase pressure on a system that doesn't value sustainability? And most importantly, how do we keep hope alive and find our own agency "in a world that's burning"? Taking part in the panel are postdoctoral researcher Linda Turunen (Aalto University), and designer and sustainable textile industry expert and educator Emilia Kiiskinen (Mendis collective, Fashion Revolution Finland). The panel is moderated by philosopher and environmental activist Riina Nykänen. During the panel, the audience will also have the chance to ask the panelists questions. Mendis Workshop In the w

Kummallinen kahvila -teatteriesitys
Helsinki Central Library Oodi · Helsinki
Esitys on saanut ensi-iltansa vuonna 2013. Esiintyjät: Nina Rinkinen / Milka Rasimus / Mimmu Korvenpää sekä Sanna Warsell / Ia Laiti Esityksen alettua ovet suljetaan eikä uusia katsojia enää oteta saliin.
